BABY NAMING CEREMONY…

One of the customs here in Guinea is to have a huge party on the seventh day after a baby is born. A man living in our apartment had one of these parties the other day. It was quite an extravaganza! We watched from our balcony as they prepared the day before. There were about ten guys and twenty to thirty women. They had huge pots of potatoes, rice, and onions. The most interesting part of the whole thing was watching them skin and then chop a cow into pieces in the parking lot. I have to say, I did get a little quizy as they worked on the cows head! The next day the parking lot was filled with more than a hundred people sitting on plastic chairs and enjoying the food.
